The model is intended for a variety of audiences, especially:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Those new to OER<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Those already aware and interested<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in implementing OER but looking to organize a plan for propelling OER adoption.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Those who are already actively adopting OER<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and need to structure efforts underway by a variety of people, departments, and so on.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/lumenlearning.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Copy-of-GoOpenVA-OER-Adoption-Maturity-Model.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-13635\" src=\"https:\/\/lumenlearning.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Copy-of-GoOpenVA-OER-Adoption-Maturity-Model-300x225.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Structuring your model.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The structure of the model relies on the identification of two categories of progress. <\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Progress Stages.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> For the original model, the categories were \u201cOER Initiate\u201d, \u201cLaunch District\u201d, and \u201cAmbassador District\u201d (the colored zones in the center of the model). The two later categories come from definitions outlined by the federal #GoOpen campaign to identify differing levels of competence, experience, and progress of an institutional OER program (in this case, public school districts). A third category, \u201cOER Initiate\u201d, as added to address those entirely new to OER, acknowledging them with a categorical identity and to offer some suggested first steps to get them going.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Progress Criteria<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. These criteria identify specific actions that can be undertaken to drive and sustain OER adoption. Some of the criteria are more generalized, suggested actions. Others are identified as specific commitments that trigger progress to the next \u201cstage\u201d of maturity (those identified in bold). Detailing brief descriptions of associated actions is highly recommended, and examples are listed in a chart in the model linked in the resources section below.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although the model implies a fairly linear structure, when presenting the model it\u2019s worth noting that it need not be implemented in such a way.
